Basingstoke Durga dates back to
2006 and has been celebrated every year since then. It is celebrated with
utmost devotion by a small group of Indians mostly from Bengal, Bihar, and
Tripura living in and around Basingstoke, Reading.
In the months of September, October we celebrate the Durga Puja in Brookvale Village Hall in Basingstoke. Durga Puja - the ceremonial worship of the mother goddess, is one of the most important festivals of India. Apart from being a religious festival for the Hindus, it is also an occasion for reunion and rejuvenation, and a celebration of traditional culture and customs. In January-February every year we celebrate Saraswati Puja - The Goddess of Knowledge.
Cultural activities are also a part of our celebration as members of the puja committee and visitors showcase their singing, dancing talents. In 2016, the drama - Bharate Chai was loved by all during the Durga Puja and a huge success too. Last year, our drama - Koltola - ekti golpo kotha, was appreciated by all too.
A homely Puja with lots of adda. Please come and join us on 13th & 14th of October 2018. We look forward to meet you.
